Abstract

1,235,043. Oxo-6-cyclodecyl formate. SOC. CHIMIQUE DES CHARBONNAGES. 11 July 1969 [12 July, 1968 (3)], No. 35131/69. Heading C2C. The invention comprises oxo-6-oyclodecyl formate. It may be prepared by (a) contacting formic acid at 10-80‹ C. with a decalin hydroperoxide, a mixture rich in decalin hydroperoxides or hydroxy-6-cyclodecanone and distilling the resulting mixture, or (b) isomerizing epoxy-1,6-cyclodecyl formate in the presence of an acid catalyst and of small quantities of water or of a solvent. The epoxy compound used as starting material in (b) above may be prepared by reacting formic acid with decalin hydroperoxides in the absence of water. The oxo-6- cyclodecyl formate may be subjected to thermal decomposition in the vapour phase, preferably under reduced pressure and in the absence of a catalyst to give cyclodecene-5-one.
