Abstract
1,234,958. Light conductors. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. June 12, 1968 [June 23, 1967], No.27834/68. Heading G2J. A light conductor for use in optical devices such as endoscopes or periscopes for transmitting optical patterns comprises a conduit 1 which has a non-reflecting internal surface or which is made of a material which becomes non-reflecting when used in a nuclear atmosphere and two transparent optical blocks 2 obturating the two extremities of the conduit, the conduit providing an enclosed space in which a vacuum is formed. The end blocks 2 may have different shapes from each other and may be prisms (2L) Fig.2 (not shown), discs, or convex or concave lenses, and may be made of glass, quartz, fused silica, which may be prepared by a synthesis process. The inner wall of the light conductor may be made non-reflecting by lining with graphite or any other temperature resistant material. The cross-section of the pipe 1 may be circular, rectangular, triangular, or hexagonal. An outer pipe (4) Fig.3 (not shown) made of fused silica may be provided concentric with the pipe 1, or alternatively a bundle of rods (5) Fig.5 (not shown) made of fused silica are disposed around the pipe parallel-with its axis. The conduit may be made of quartz or of fused silica.
