Apparatus for pelletizing particulate materials by agglomeration comprises a casing, a rotor carrying a plurality of treating elements disposed in the casing, means for rotating the rotor about its axis relative to the casing and means for imparting a gyratory relative motion between the elements and the casing by motion of the casing, said gyratory motion preventing accumulation of deposits on the casing wall. Preferably the elements are mounted around an axis mounted eccentrically in a cylindrical casing. As shown, the apparatus comprises a central shaft 21 on which is mounted a rotor 33 fitted with a plurality of treating elements 36 arranged in a spiral. The rotor 33 and elements 36 are mounted in a casing 20 and can be rotated by a motor 43. Secondary drive shafts 60, 61 are driven in the same direction by motor 43 and are attached to casing 20 by eccentric bearings 70 so that the casing has a gyratory motion when the motor is running. Particulate material is fed into the casing through hatch 37 and is moved along the casing by rotation of the spiral treating elements and build-up on the casing is prevented by scraping action of the treating elements on the gyrating casing. The agglomerated material leaves the casing through an outlet at the base of the casing adjacent the motor.
