Abstract

1,233,761. Safety harness. A. GINGELL. 9 June, 1969 [4 July, 1968], No. 31938/68. Heading A3V. [Also in Division B8] A safety harness for use in e.g. sea rescue operations comprises integral seat and jacket portions 29, 1, 7, the seat portion 29 being provided with a pair of rings 31 at the sides by which the harness may be suspended from a spreader bar by a pair of ropes or wires and the jacket portion 1, 7 having pockets 3, 5 containing a buoyant material e.g. kapok, a closed-cell plastic foam, or. inflatable air bags. The jacket portion 1, 7 comprises back member 1 and two front members 7, forming a waistcoat-shape, the members 7 being fastened across the front of the wearer by means of straps 9 passing through rings 13 adjacent the bottom of the back portion 1 and tied off at loops 15 on adjacent edges of the members 7. The seat portion 29 is joined at the edge 27 to a curved edge 25 on a lower back portion 21 attached along edge 23 to the back portion 1. A bib 37 is attached to the free edge of the seat portion 29 and has at its upper edge a pair of straps 41 which are attached to straps 47 on the back portion 1 by quick-release catches 43, 45. Hooks 33 attached to the back portion 1 by straps 35 provide freerunning connections with the ropes or wires. Straps 49, crossing each other on the seat portion 29, and strap 53 reinforce the seat and bib portions 29, 37.
