[Also in Divisions B3, B8 and F4] A device for lifting and positioning a tundish 1 above a mould 2 comprises a rail-mounted carriage 3, a tundish lifting mechanism mounted thereon, and tundish support means 7 supporting the tundish 1, the means 7 being linked to a carriage 3 by means of a cantilever linkage 9, 10 so as to provide for lifting and lowering the tundish laterally of or in front of the carriage without tilting or rocking the tundish. The lifting mechanism is driven by an electric motor (11, Fig. 2) coupled to a shaft (8) through a coupler (12), a reduction gear 13, a crank 14, a connecting rod 15 and a lever 16. The carriage 3 may be equipped with an additional roller 17 bearing upwardly upon a rail 18 to prevent the carriage from tilting.
