Abstract
1,232,861. Decimal currency converter. D. S. EVANS. 12 June, 1969 [30 March, 1968; 5 Feb., 1969], Nos. 15457/68 and 6308/69. Heading G4B. A decimal currency converter comprises a first scale representing shillings, a second scale representing pennies and third and fourth scales representing new pence, wherein the first and third scales are on one carrier and the second and fourth scales are on another carrier so that when the carriers are moved relative to each other to indicate at a position shillings and pence a conversion to new pence is also displayed. In Fig. 3 the two carriers are independently rotatable discs 7, 8 mounted behind a cover 9 having apertures 11, 13 through which the new pence conversion is displayed. In another embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the scales are rearranged and mounted on superposed rotatable discs, the upper disc having an appropriate aperture, or on relatively slidable members. In Fig. 6c an upper rotatable disc 14<SP>1</SP> is apertured so that one of two pence scales on a lower disc 14 can be adjusted to the appropriate odd or even shillings scales on disc 14<SP>1</SP> and the new pence equivalent, shown partly on each disc, can be read off directly e.g. 11/5d. equals 57 new pence as shown. In Figs. 7a, 7b and 8 (not shown), four carriers are provided, a first pair for pence and even shillings and a second pair for pence and odd shillings the new pence scale associated with the pence scale on said second pair being five new pence higher than that on said first pair. These scales are slid linearly or mounted on coaxial cylinders. In Fig. 10 partially overlapping first and second slides 34, 35 respectively are slid linearly and each has two new pence scales. Slide 34 has apertures 33 so that the equivalent new pence are indicated, e.g. 3/10d. equals 19 new pence. These scales may be mounted on rotatable coaxial discs or on non coaxial rotatable discs which partially overlap and are mounted within an apertured cover (Figs. 11 to 14, not shown).
