Abstract

In a boiling light water nuclear reactor, circulation of the water is effected by pumps connected to turbines driven by the flow of reactor feed water. The reactor core, 2, is cooled by the flow of water from the pumps 13, through the ring train, 8, turbines 6, ring main 11, pipe 14 into the pressure vessel, 3. The coolant circulator pumps 4 are driven by the turbines. The pumps 13 are fed with condensate from the turbine 16 driven by steam from the vessel 3. In an alternative form, the turbines 6 are mounted on the upper surface of 3 and discharge directly into it.
