Abstract

In a washing machine controlled by the cam of a sequence controller whose stepping mechanism is periodically energized to step it on, the cam can be set manually to a position within the starting cycle and has a position prior to the starting position in which it can be energized through liquid level responsive contacts. A washing machine, having a clothes container rotatable about a horizontal axis, with a heater, a driving motor and an emptying pump includes a sequence controller whose cam is indexed through 42 cam positions by stepping mechanism which may" receive an impulse from a timer every two minutes or from liquid level responsive contacts or the various temperature positions of a thermostat. The machine is started by rotating a knob (see Specification 1,232,383) and any of the desired starting positions is preceded by two positions in which the low liquid level contacts are in series with the stepping mechanism so that it is stepped on if the container is empty at these positions.
