Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A thermostatically controlled radiator valve for a hot water central heating system comprises a valve member 8 axially displaced by a bellows 9 to reduce the water flow aperture past a seat 7 consequent upon ambient temperature conditions, the member 8 having an axially movable throttling member 19 projecting downwardly therefrom against a spring 10 under the control of an axially movable and spring urged head 11 in a sleeve 12. A known locking device (not shown) is mounted between the head and sleeve (in the manner of a ball point pen) to lock the head after a predetermined downward movement and to release the head after subsequent depression occasioned by pressure surges in the water flow. An adjustable screw 14 abutting the head adjusts the point at which locking occurs and the screw is mounted in a sealing bellows 15. In operation, a first pressure surge moves the valve 8 upwardly to extend the bellows 9 and the head and throttling member move downwardly relative to the valve to be locked in the outwardly projecting position and remain there when the pressure returns to normal and the valve 8 moves to a position determined by the bellows 9. A further pressure surge again moves the valve to unlock the throttling member.
