Abstract
1,232,147. Automatic optimization. DORNIER SYSTEM G.m.b.H. April 1, 1969 [Oct.19, 1968] No.16953/69. Heading G3R. In a system for automatically maintaining the product of two inversely related variables at a maximum, each variable is decreased in turn, the changeover being effected by a switch which operates when the variable being decreased falls to a predetermined fraction of its previous initial value. In Fig. 4, an electrical source K, such as solar cells on a satellite, supplies a load V through a choke L and a diode D. A switch T, which may be a contact, a transistor, or a thyristor, is operated intermittently by a logic circuit SL so that, when the switch is closed, the source output voltage U falls and the current I rises whereas, when the switch is open the current falls and the voltage rises. The value of voltage or current Uα, I# from which the fall takes place is measured and stored by capacity or other time delay means SpM 1 or SpM 2 and a predetermined fraction K of the measurement is compared with the instantaneous value of U or I so that logic circuit SL changes switch T when the voltage or current has fallen to the predetermined fraction of its initial value. The switching gradually shifts the mean value of the small voltage and current excursions until maximum power is obtained and, thereafter, this condition is maintained despite variations of the voltage-current characteristic e.g. due to different locations of the satellite relative to the sun. In a modification, the logic circuit controls an integrating circuit which varies the source instead of the load on it.
