Abstract
123,209. Kent, W. G., (Morris, W. H. G.). March 22, 1918. Ball and float valves.- A valve device for automatically changing the discharge of liquid from one outlet to another after a predetermined interval of time, and particularly applicable for controlling the wash water used in connexion with filters, has a valve arranged between the two outlet chambers actuated by a Boat in a third chamber which is periodically filled and emptied. The apparatus is started by filling the float chamber 12 through a funnel 1211, pipe 121, threeway cock 14, and pipe, so that when a valve, 101 on the inlet is opened liquid flows through the open valve 106 to the outlet 111. The actuating spindle of the valve 101 is interconnected with the cock 14 so that, when the valve is open, the cock closes the connexion 112. 122 between the chambers 11, 12 and opens the connexion 122, 124 in order that liquid in the chamber 12 may slowly escape to drain through an apertured disk 125 and allow the valve 106 to close; water then flows through the outlet 104. On closing the valve 101, water flows from the chamber 11 through the connexion 112, 122 to the chamber 12 and re-opens the valve 106. To record the time during which the water is leaving either of the outlets, each outlet is connected by a pipe 151 to a chamber 15 containing a float 152. Each float is attached by a cord 154 to a, pulley 153 connected to a notched disk so arranged that, when liquid is flowing and the float chamber filled, the float turns the disk to raise a bar 20 out of the notch and move a pen 211 over a clockworkdriven recorder 22.
