Abstract

1,231,990. Coated wall covering. J. & J. MAKIN Ltd. 26 Feb., 1968 [9 May, 1967; 5 July, 1967], Nos. 50662/70 and 50663/70. Divided out of 1230095. Heading B2E. A readily-strippable wall covering has a fibrous backing surface which has been treated with an unplasticised mixture of nitrocellulose resins to reduce the susceptibility of the wall covering to adhere to the wall upon the subsequent application of a water-based adhesive, the amount of resin applied being in the range 3 gm./sq. m. to 7 gm./sq. m. to reduce but not eliminate the adhesive bond between the wall and the fibrous backing surface. The resins may be applied in liquid form with a discontinuous, irregular or regular layer, e.g. a micro-dot pattern. Decorative, advertising or instructional matter may be applied to the facing surface before or after the application of the resins, which may be applied by printing, spraying, immersion, gravure roll, roller coating, silk screen printing with or without a stencil or kiss coating.
