Abstract

1,231,819. Comminuting plastics. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 13 Sept., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 43653/68. Heading B2A. Blocks of expanded amino plastics, particularly ureaformaldehyde condensation products, are reduced to particulate form. A block enters a casing 1 and is cut into strips by contra-rotating toothed rollers 2, 3, the strips being forced across shear blades 4 and combs 5 which cut the strips into shorter lengths. These lengths fall into a second comminution zone where shear teeth 6 of a roller 7 force them through the gaps of a comb 8 for further size reduction. There may be further comminution zones. The spacing and size of teeth on and the peripheral speeds of the rollers are specified in detail. Examples are given of varying granulometry of the end product based on a choice of speeds and bulk weight of the starting material.
