Abstract

A progressive lasting machine includes a rotatable updraw cylinder 10, a pressure applying member 112 which guides the lasting margin into contact with the cylinder 10, presses it against the cylinder 10 and then folds it towards the insole I, and a wiper roll 14, the pressure applying member 112 being provided with a passage 128 through which compressed air is supplied to reduce the drag between the lasting margin and the member 112. As described the lasting machine of Specification 1,132,042 is modified by a provision of the pasage 128 and a pipe 130 connected to a source of compressed air. Air is supplied to the face 122 of member 112 when the updraw cylinder 10 is rotated.
