Abstract
1,231,387. Polarograph assembly. ENGLISH CLAYS LOVERING POCHIN & CO; Ltd. Aug.7, 1968 [Aug.11, 1967], No. 37123/67. Heading G1N. [Also in Division C1] A polarograph assembly comprises a saturated calomel electrode 1 and a dropping mercury electrode 2 disposed in cylindrical housing 6. The electrodes are supported by a central tubular column 7 within which arc supply tubes 8, 9 for the electrodes. Supply tube 8 extends from mercury reservoir 4 and tube 9 extends from a reservoir 5 of saturated KC1 solution. A lead 11 for the calomel electrode 1 passes through column 7 and electrical connection 12 to the mercury electrode is by means of a platinum wire or stainless steel rod immersed in the mercury reservoir. Falling mercury is trapped in a well 3 and is periodically removed via plug 13. A stream containing an aqueous suspension of a mineral and a dithionate bleach is passed through aperture 10 in the housing 6 and the diffusion current is measured and the concentration of dithionate bleach is measured. When only a sample of the main stream is tapped off it is advantageous to adapt the housing, as shown in Fig. 2, by providing inlet tube 20 and overflow holes 20a.
