An extreme pressure additive for lubricating oils comprises 70-95 wt. per cent of a chlorinated C 8 -C 30 hydrocarbon containing 30-70 wt. per cent chlorine and 30-5 wt. per cent of a tertiary organic trithiophosphite. The hydrocarbon may be a paraffin and the thiophosphite may be triphenyl-, tridodecyl-, trinonyl-, tri- (nonylphenyl)- or diphenyl-dodecyl-trithiophosphite.
