Abstract

122,933. Pilcher, C. E. Feb. 20, 1918. Forks; planting - tools.- A tool for making holes for planting potatoes &c. comprises a shaft or stem having prongs around the lower end for loosening the soil around the holes. A tool with two prongs may be used as an ordinary fork. The tool may be formed by mounting a hollow shaft on the central prong of a three-pronged fork, so that the hollow shaft forms an extension of the shaft of the fork. In the form shown, four prongs c extend radially outward from the lower part b of the shaft a, their ends being bent downwards parallel to the shaft a. The part b may be pointed, or formed of metal tube, with its end of the shape shown. It may extend beyond the ends of the prongs. The prongs may form a tread for the operator's foot, and may be adjustably connected to the shaft. According to the Provisional Specification, the lower end of the shaft may be threaded like an earth auger, and the prongs may be mounted so that the shaft may be rotated independently of them.
