Abstract
1,229,251. Metallurgical converters. ASHMORE, BENSON, PEASE & CO. Ltd. 31 Jan., 1969 [6 Feb., 1968], No. 5866/68. Heading F4B. In a tiltable basic oxygen steel converter 1 1 carried by a trunnion ring 2 and trunnions 3, 4, tilting is effected by four hydraulic motors 12, 13 (only two shown) of the radial piston type. The motors are coupled to the trunnion 4 through gearing comprising primary gearboxes 10, 11 and a secondary gear-box 9. The trunnions 3, 4 are held in bearings 7, 8 carried on supports 5, 6. A pump unit (not shown) operated by an electric motor powers the hydraulic motors.
