Abstract

Cramps and clamps; vices.-A cramp or vice particularly for use in the manufacture of ribs or other parts of air-craft comprises an inner former and outer movable jaws operable by levers to clamp the rib &c. against the former. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the work 5 is gripped between a fixed inner former 2 secured to the base 1 and movable jaws 3 which are operated by levers 4 pivoted to the base 1 and tenoned into the jaws 3 and connected thereto bv screws 3<b>. A footpiece 6 arranged below the former 2 is preferably provided to raise the work 5 so that webs or other parts 7 may be secured thereto, and the jaws 3 are provided with recesses 3a to clear the foot-piece 6. Links may connect the levers 4 for simultaneous operation, and the jaws 3 may be in sections, each provided with one or more operating levers. In a modification, the levers 4 are arranged beneath the base 1 and are connected to the jaws 3 by pins extending up through slots in the base.
