Abstract
122,869. Cammell, Laird, & Co., Carter, Sir G. J., and Wavish, S. J. Jan. 7, 1918. Submarine vessels, special apparatus for steering; steering and manoeuvring by screw and like propellers.-The propellers of submersible vessels are provided with encircling casings F capable of adjustable angular movement about a substantially horizontal axis and adapted according to their inclination, as shown in Fig. 4, to direct the flow of water from the propellers so as to provide a downward or upward re-action on the end of the vessel which becomes tilted fore and aft to provide for submersion or emersion. The casings F have outward pivots supported in arms E' and inner pivots passing through a hollow central fn B and connected together and to an operating lever G. In a modification, the inner pivots are disconnected and act independently.
