Abstract

1,228,380. Adhesive composition. VINYL PRODUCTS Ltd. 5 Sept., 1968 [12 Sept., 1967], No. 41662/67. Heading C3P. An adhesive composition comprises an aqueous dispersion of a vinyl acetate homo- or copolymer, a filler and either a polyvinyl alcohol having a degree of hydrolysis of at least 96% and a viscosity in 4% aqueous solution at 20‹ C. of at least 30 cps. or a water-soluble nitrogencontaining polymer and contains 7-20% polyvinyl acetate including plasticizer if used, 50-65% of filler and at least 0.25% of the polyvinyl alcohol or nitrogen-containing polymer. The vinyl acetate may be copolymerized with 2-ethylhexyl acrylate or the vinyl ester of Versatic acid (Registered Trade Mark) and may be plasticized with dibutyl phthalate. Preferred fillers are gypsum, sodium montmorillonite and bentonite clay. The nitrogen-containing polymer may be polyacrylamide or polyethyleneimine. The adhesives are used on ceramic tiles.
