Abstract
1,228,347. Blow-moulding; nursing container. PROPLASTO A.G. 29 Jan., 1969 [14 Feb., 1968], No. 4825/69. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A5] A nursing container comprising a container body 1 and a teat 2 integral with the body, the wall thickness of the body being greater than the wall thickness of the teat is formed by moulding a blank of synthetic plastics material and thinning a portion of the body wall by local stretching to form the teat. As described a tubular blank is inserted into mould 6 via opening 3 with its axis at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the finished bottle and expanded by fluid pressure from this position. Opening 3 is nearer the base of the bottle than the teat so that on expansion of the blank the teat wall will be thinner than the wall of base and body. The body wall may have a nipple protruding inwardly or outwardly (13, Fig. 4, 12, Fig. 3, not shown) for piercing to provide an air inlet. The two halves of the mould may join at right angles, or obliquely, or parallel to the axis of the container with the teat possibly at 45 degrees to the axis to avoid a seam being present in the teat. A filling opening may be provided in the end opposite the teat. To assist in producing the thinner wall of the teat portion of the container, the mould may be heated and cooled in different parts; the blank may be expanded slowly as far as the shoulder and then rapidly to form the teat; suction may be applied to the channel 7 during expansion of the blank; the surface of the mould may be uneven. The container cross-section may be round, triangular, square &c. The blank may be injected, extruded or comprise a sheet.
