Abstract
1,227,795. Organopolysiloxane emulsions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 April, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 22625/68. Heading C3T. Stable emulsions are prepared by first dispersing at least one organopolysiloxane of formula (in which R and R<SP>1</SP> are hydrocarbon radicals, x is 0 or 1 and n is >1 but #5 when x = 0) in water containing an anionic dispersing agent and an acid selected from sulphamic, cyclamic and trichloracetic acids and sulphonic acids of benzene, naphthalene and benzene substituted by alkyl groups containing <6 carbon atoms. Preferred acids are cyclamic acid and p-toluene aulphonic acid. The dispersing agent which may be used at up to 10% by wt. of the siloxane may be an alkali metal salt of a C 11-18 sulphated aliphatic alcohol. From 1-5% by wt. of acid based on the siloxane may be used. Polymerization may take place at 15-60‹ C. The starting material may be a mixture of cyclic dimethylpolysiloxanes optionally mixed with other low M.W. hydrolysis products of organohalosilanes.
