Abstract

[Also in Divisions E2 and H2] An electric motor closing the sliding door of a lift is reversed when a mechanical or a capacitive detector detects a body in the path of the door. The capacitive detector comprises two vertical parallel conductors embedded in the strip. The capacitance between the two conductors forms one arm of a bridge circuit, the other arms being formed by an adjustable capacitor and the two parts of a tapped inductance or, alternatively, the two parts of a transformer winding. When the conductors approach a body the capacitance between them alters, and a signal appears at the bridge output. The signal is amplified to actuate contact points to reverse the motor. The sensitivity of the capacitive detector may be varied by using conductors of different length, or by using three or more conductors where each pair of conductors has a different spacing.
