Abstract
1,227,174. Operating mechanism for sliding- swinging doors; clamps; remotely operated fastenings. LIBBEY-OWENS-FORD CO. 22 May, 1968 [13 June, 1967], No. 24317/68. Headings E2A, E2B and E2M. A door construction for closing and sealing a port through which objects are delivered along a fixed path which is perpendicular to a portion of a wall defining the port comprises a gate 13, drive means 17 including pivotal support means on which the gate is journalled in an axis displaced from the axis on which the support means are journalled for moving the gate from a position in which it lies parallel to the fixed path to its closed position, at least one roller secured to the gate, a channel member 67 for receiving the roller to guide the gate and which is movable in a direction parallel to the fixed path, biasing means such as adjustable springs 76 (Fig. 3 not shown) for urging the channel member away from the wall defining the port, the clamping means 21 for moving the gate when closed into sealing engagement with said wall. The clamping means may comprise a plurality of clamps each consisting of drive means 101 for reciprocal movement of a rack 97 which meshes with a pinion gear 95. The latter is keyed to the drive shaft 94 of a linkage 92 which is journalled to one end of a clamp arm 87 having a stop 91, the other end of the arm 87 being journalled for rotation on a support member 89 of the wall 23. The gate is coupled to the drive means by a rotatable rod 33 journalled through a conduit 27 of the gate on bearings 35. A reciprocally actuated drive shaft 59 actuates the rod 33 for movement of the gate via parallel links 57 and a rod 53 in bearings 56. A second guide channel 68 may be provided adjacent wall 23 to receive a second wheel bearing 66 on the gate when in its open position. Sealing means may be provided around the periphery of the gate or the port which means comprises a pair of tack-welded bevelled strips fitted about an O-ring sealing member of resilient material (see Fig. 2 not shown). The door may be constructed from aluminium plate and may be strengthened by means of ribs 29 and plates 32 seating areas 31 for the clamps may be secured upon the ribs. (For Figures see next page)
