Abstract

1,226,672. Extrudate for blow-moulding. LATYMER (G.T.) PRODUCTS Ltd. 19 June, 1969 [20 June, 1968], No. 29576/68. Heading B5A. The wall thickness of an extruded tube is varied during extrusion by accumulating a predetermined quantity of plastics material in a chamber and thereafter moving a member thereinto at a predetermined, varying speed by a single-acting piston and cylinder to extrude material from the chamber through a nozzle of constant cross-section. Material is fed along barrel 10, Fig. 1, of an extruder by screw 11, through conical passage 14 into accumulator chamber 13, forcing ram 18 upwardly. When a predetermined quantity has been accumulated, a switch (not shown) may be actuated to start extrusion by downward motion of ram 18 at a varying speed. This is controlled by a piston 20 in an hydraulic cylinder 21 to which fluid supply is controlled by valve in accordance with a cam surface 26 mounted on the piston-rod 19 and a follower 27.
