Abstract

1,226,438. Naphthyloxy salicylanilides and carbanilides. UNILEVER Ltd. 27 Nov., 1969 [3 Dec., 1968], No. 57429/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises salicylanilide or carbanilide in which at least one of the hydrogen atoms attached to a carbon atom in either or both of the aromatic rings of the salicylanilide or carbanilide is replaced by a naphthyloxy group and optionally in addition by a halogen atom. They are prepared by reacting an optionally halogenated naphthylamine phenylether with an optionally halogenated salicylic acid to produce a salicylanilide or with an aryl isocyanate to produce a carbanilide. Aminophenyl naphthyl ethers optionally substituted by chlorine are prepared by reduction of the corresponding nitro compounds which are prepared by reacting a naphthol with a chloronitrobenzene, optionally further substituted by chlorine. The compounds of the invention are germicidal agents.
