Abstract
1,226,416. Cooling rolled products. INSTITUT CHERNOI METALLURGII. July 10, 1968, No.32903/68. Heading C7N. The product, which may have been sheared as it leaves the rolling mill is conveyed through a series of tubular metal chambers by a cooling fluid which is fed into each chamber in such a quantity that the product and fluid do not completely fill the chamber, while the apparatus is such that at least a substantial proportion of the fluid does not enter the succeeding chamber. As shown in Fig.2, rod 3 enters bore 5 of chamber 1 through channel 4, and is conveyed and cooled by fluid introduced through annular nozzle 6 of injector 2. A jet of water from nozzle 7 diverts the cooling fluid as it leaves the chamber so that it does not accompany the rod into the next chamber. Alternatively the discharge tube of each chamber may be arcuate to divert the fluid, an opening being formed in the wall to allow the product to pass on. In further modifications the injector may be spaced from the chamber and may have provision for the substitution of an inner bush according to the crosssection of the product being treated, Fig.3, (not shown) or the injector may be integral with the chamber but have several inlet nozzles in the form of longitudinally extending slots, Fig.4, (not shown).
