Abstract
1,225,840. Fluidic devices. TATEISI ELECTRONICS CO. 18 Oct., 1968 [20 Oct., 1967], No. 49439/68. Heading G4P. [Also in Division G3] A fluidic element comprises a passage for a control stream which controls the deflection of, but does not come into contact with, a main fluid jet. In a bi-stable element, Fig. 1, a jet stream F 1 flows to output ports 11 or 12. Control streams G 1 and G 2 enter input ports 17, 18 and traverse the ends of, but do not enter, passages 19, 20 and exit to ports 21, 22. Openings 25, 26 vent to atmosphere. Stream F 1 flows along passage 9 adherent to the left side thereof (Fig. 3). If control stream G 2 flows it lowers pressure in passage 20 to switch the jet to the output 10. Similarly it may be switched back to its former flow along passage 9 by the presence of control stream G 1 . In a further system (Figs. 5, not shown) the control streams pass from input to output through passages transverse to the passages 19, 20, and lying in the plane of body 1. In a further element (Fig. 9) input ports 57a, 57b, 57c pass control streams to port 59, the streams causing a pressure reduction in passage 54 to switch jet F4. The element acts as an OR/NOR gate. The input ports and control passages may be in a plane perpendicular to that of the body 1, Fig. 15 (not shown). In a further element (Fig. 11) control streams G8, G9 are developed from plural streams entering inlet ports 64a-64c, 65a-65c which are summed in series or parallel to enter passages 66, 67 traversing the ends of spaces 68, 69 to outlet ports 70, 71. The jet stream F5 entering a control region is deflected proportionally to the pressure difference between control streams G8, G9, i.e. to the difference between the number of input streams constituting each. In a further element, Fig. 12, a single control stream G10 developed from two interacting input streams at 75a, b is applied to deflect jet F6 in response to the presence of the two inputs to provide AND/NAND action. In a further element (Fig. 13, not shown) the control streams developed by pairs of interacting input streams interact to develop a main control stream only when all inputs are present, providing AND/NAND operation. In a further element (Fig. 14, not shown) for AND/NAND OR/NOR action in plural stages, a control stream derived from plural inputs as in Fig. 9 and from a plurality of pairs of inputs as in Fig. 13 (not shown) are combined in pairs and plural such pairs are assembled into a set. In a further arrangement (Fig. 16) for OR or NOR action passage 96 is connected to a diaphragm 96 linked to operate a low pressure valve 99 controlling the main jet stream F10. In a further system, Fig. 17, for combined AND/OR action either of control streams G15, G16 impinging on one side of main jet stream F11 deviates it from outlet 108 to 109, while simultaneous flow of control streams G17, G18 operating to reduce pressure on the other side of jet stream F11 similarly deviates it from outlet 108 to 109.
