Abstract

1,225,589. Bulked yarns; fibrillated. AVISUN CORP. 25 April, 1969 [26 April, 1968], No. 21281/69. Headings D1F and D1W. A process for continuously producing bulk yarn from molecularly orientable polymeric material comprises the steps of extruding the polymeric material into a film-like web 11, longitudinally drawing the web to stretch the same to an orientation point at which filamentization is possible, slitting the web into a plurality of individual flat ribbons R 1 to R n , passing the ribbons through a heating zone Z 1 to Z n , and false-twisting each of said ribbons to fibrillate the structure thereof to form a yarn composed of twist-free, continuous filaments. In an alternative embodiment, the web is slit into ribbons before orientation, the width of the ribbons being appropriate to the denier of the final yarn. The polymeric material may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, or polyester.
