Abstract

Endless - band conveyers, articles carried by.-In apparatus of the type described in Specification 15133/05, for drying and conditioning leather, yarn, and textile and other materials, the side heating-chambers are dispensed with, and a single drying- chamber is employed. The chamber is closed or partially closed at one end, and a fan, arranged at the closed end, causes air to circulate in a closed circuit through upper and lower conduits and vertically through the chamber. The material to be dried is hung on transverse rods which are carried through the chamber once or several times on endless chains 39 provided with projections to engage the ends of the rods. The chains are supported by longitudinal races and pass round sprocket-wheels driven by gearing. At the feed end of the chambers the rods are received into pockets 61, Fig. 7, carried by wheels 32 by which they are delivered down a shoot 64 to transfer wheels 31. The periphery of the wheel 32 is notched to receive the rods which are delivered by them to the lower run of the chains. The rods are raised to the upper run of the chains by an endless chain 77, Fig. 6, working in vertical guides. The tension of the endless chains can be adjusted by moving guide-pulleys 38 which are formed with deep recesses to allow the passage of the projections. A fan j is arranged in a. space a<1> separated from the drying space by a bulkhead i, and communicates with a conduit f above the chamber and a conduit e below it. These conduits are closed at the ends f<1> and e<1> and communicate with the chamber by transverse openings l<1> and k<1>. The air passes from the fan through the conduit e vertically through the chamber to the conduit. f or vice versa. Radiators are arranged in the fan chamber a<1>, and heating or cooling pipes 85 may be placed in one or both conduits. Where necessary, the material may pass from the drying-chamber to a conditioning- chamber disposed at the feed end of the machine and provided with fans by which air is forced over the material.
