[Also in Division A3] In an endless conveyer (for shoe manufacture) comprising a driven chain 46 (Figs, 3 and 4) located on rails 38 by rollers 66, 70 and 52 and having drive member 54 equipped with a fixed catch 72 engageable with a spring-loaded lever 122 pivoted on a plate 116 which is secured to a shoe carriage frame 104 and which has rollers 118, 120 and 140 (Fig. 2) engaging rails 44 and 102 respectively, to support the carriage frame 104, there are provided (Fig. 9) a load/unload locality 248 and working localities 256, 252 and 254 comprising cam stations 260a to 260q (where track-mounted cam surfaces 95, 138 (Fig. 5) disengage the levers 122 from the chain catches 72 by engaging rollers 128) and two chain-free stations 258 (corresponding to the region where (Fig. 7) the chain passes round the laterally movable chain tensioning sprocket 206), and carriages 82a to 82v driven by four drive members 54a to 54d, such that upon arrival of a driven carriage e.g. 82a at a station e.g. 260a, the drive member is disengaged from the carriage 82a but engages subsequently with the carriage 82d which has been displaced clear of the cam station 260c by the arrival of the carriage 82a, and hence engagement of the carriage 82a with the carriage 82b which pushes all the carriages through the locality by one station, and the carriage 82d is moved to the next station e.g. 260d. The carriage frame has last supports 106, shoe supports 108, and a components tray 110, and guard rails 144 encircle the conveyer. Lasting operations are carried out at locality 252, a tunnel heat-setting unit is disposed at locality 254, and bottom preparations e.g. roughing are carried out at locality 256.
