Abstract
1,224,980. Splitting coil yokes. MULLARD Ltd. 5 Dec., 1969, No. 59527/69. Heading B5E. A method of splitting a coil yoke 4 such as a C.R.T. deflection coil yoke, comprises locating the yoke between a pair of supporting jaws 2, 3, applying an increasing mechanical force to one jaw, measuring the force applied to the yoke during the application, detecting a sudden change in said measurement as indicative of cracking of the yoke, and removing the force upon detection of the change. The yoke may be provided with grooves 5 to weaken the yoke where it is to be cracked and a rib 6 on a support 1 for the jaws locates in a groove in the yoke to position the yoke. The jaw 3 is biased outwards by a spring 7 and engages a piezo-electric transducer 8 mounted between steel blocks 9 and having an output lead 11. The jaw 2 is connected by a lever 12 to a pneumatic cylinder 14 in a pneumatic circuit which supplies pressure to the cylinder to actuate the jaw 2 to apply an increasing force to the yoke. When the yoke cracks, the change in pressure is detected by the transducer which actuates a valve to cause the cylinder to retract the jaw 2.
