Abstract
1,224,950. Separating liquids. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. 29 Sept, 1969 [19 Oct., 1968], No. 47842/69. Headings B1D and B2J. A method of accelerating the separation into phases of a phase mixture consisting of mutually immiscible or only sparingly miscible organic or inorganic liquids in a liquid-liquid extraction process using a mixer and an electric separator is characterized in that a potential of 10-500 volts d.c. or a.c. is applied to at least one horizontal electrode in the separator and the power supplied to the or all electrodes is from 0.5-500 VA/sq. in of separatory surface. When an a.c. potential is applied the power is adjusted by regulation of the applied potential by a voltage regulator or by the interposition of an impedance or capacitor. Alternatively the power may be adjusted by coating the electrodes with electrical insulation.
