Novel ethers of the formula wherein each of R 1 is independently a fluorine or chlorine atom or a C 1-9 alkyl radical optionally substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine or two of the radicals R 1 form a C 1-18 alkylene radical optionally substituted by fluorine and/or chlorine, provided that no more than 3 of the R 1 radicals are haloalkyl and not more than 2 of them are alkyl; A is a radical of the formula where R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen or chlorine atoms or alkyl radicals, R 5 and R 6 are hydrogen or fluorine atoms, R 7 is a hydrogen, chlorine or fluorine atom or a perfluoroalkyl radical, provided that when R 6 and R 7 are both fluorine R 5 is also fluorine, and p is 1 to 9; m and n are from 0 to 75; C is one of certain optionally substituted ethylene radicals, D is a radical of the formula -CX 1 X 2 -CX 3 X 4 -, wherein X 1 to X 4 are hydrogen, fluorine or chlorine atoms, not more than one of them being chlorine; and J is a radical of the formula -CX 5 = CX 6 X 7 , where X 5 to X 7 are hydrogen, chlorine or fluorine atoms; with certain provisos relating the values of D and J and provided that when one of X 5 to X 7 is a halogen atom the compound contains no other halogen atom having an atomic weight higher than that of the said halogen atom; are obtained by dehalogenating or dehydrohalogenating saturated ethers of the formula Y being a hydrogen or halogen atom.
