[Also in Divisions B2 and C2] Textile materials, e.g. cotton, are rendered oil and water repellent by treatment with fluorine containing ethers of the formula [CM(R 1 ) 2 ] 2 CF-O-CF 2 CF 2 -(C) m -(D) n - (G) mv -Y; wherein each R 1 radical is independently a fluorine atom or a C 1-9 fluoroalkyl group or two R 1 radicals form a fluoroalkylene radical and providing that no more than 3 of the R 1 radicals are fluoroalkyl radicals; each of m, n and # is from 0 to 75 and their sum (m+n+#) is from 1 to 75; Y is a cyano group or a group of the formula -COQ, Q being (i) an -O-A group, where A is a hydrogen or alkate-metal atom, (ii) a fluorine or chlorine atom, (iii) a C 1-6 alkoxy group, or (iv) a radical -NHB, where B is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-6 alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or chloroalkyl group; and C, D and G are respectively radicals -CZ 1 Z 2 -CZ 3 Z 4 - -CX 1 X 2 -CX 3 X 4 and -CX 1 CX 2 -, the X and Z groups being, subject to certain restrictions, hydrogen, fluorine or chlorine atoms.
