Abstract
1,224,458. Cracking catalysts. W. R. GRACE & CO. 2 June, 1969 [26 June, 1968], No. 27782/69. Heading B1E. Zeolite promoted clay containing SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 cracking catalysts having surface areas of 100-275 m<SP>2</SP>/gm. are made by (a) felling an alkali metal silicate solution containing clay with acid (b) aging the gelled solution (c) combining the aged solution with an aluminium salt (d) combining the mixture with a crystalline zeolite promoter (e) washing and drying the product to produce a particulate catalyst having an alkali metal oxide content below 1% by weight, characterised by adding sufficient acid to the silicate solution of step (a) to effect gelation within a period of from 5 to 90 minutes. Other physical properties, e.g. particle size and pore size of catalyst particles are disclosed. Specified clays are Kaolin, halloysite, bentonite and meta-Kaolin. The preferred promoter is fanjasite. In examples the catalyst is subjected to ion-exchange wih a rare earth salt.
