1,224,327. Disc calculator. D. W. OLNEY. 13 Nov., 1968, No. 53877/68. Heading G4B. A disc calculator for converting sterling amounts to decimals comprises two overlapping rotatable discs 4, 6, Fig. 2, mounted on a plate 2, the disc 6 having two read-off scales 42, 44, only one of which is visible beneath a window 34, Fig. 1, depending on which of the windows, 46 or 48, Fig. 2, in the disc 4 is indexed to the window 34, the discs 4 and 6 having input scales 10 and 12 settable against marks 14 and 16, respectively. Window 18, Fig. 1, indicates the shillings amount 14 in new pennies, window 20 indicates the pence amount 16 in new pennies, and windows 32, 34 and 36 indicate the total in decimals of a pound. The circles of windows 46, 48 may intersect the scales 42, 44, the window 34 then being sited upon one of the intersections. Adjacent windows may be formed by a spiral slot. The calculator may be made of plastics, celluloid, metal, or cardboard. Alternative conversions are feet and inches to centimetres, pounds and ounces to grams, and Fahrenheit to Centigrade.
