Abstract

1,224,248. Continuous precipitation of plutonium oxalate. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 26 Aug., 1968 [6 Sept., 1967], No. 40660/68. Heading B1X. [Also in Division G6] Apparatus for the continuous precipitation and purification of plutonium oxalate comprises a precipitator 1 into which quantities of the reagents metered at 30, 31 are introduced by non-immersed tubes 2, 3. The suspension formed overflows at 5 and passes to decanting vessel 6, cylindro-conical transfer chamber 9, first washing column 16 and associated decanting vessel 20 and cylindro-conical transfer chamber 22, and second washing column 23 similar to the first column and leading to a drying oven. The transfer chambers each comprise two ball valves which open and close automatically at intervals so as to transfer the precipitate to the next stage with the aid of washing liquid introduced via valves 13. Plutonium oxalate is precipitated by mixing' solutions of plutonium nitrate and oxalic acid. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,055,412. (For Figure see next page)
