Abstract
1,223,960. Universal joints. MOSKOVSKY DVAZHDY ORDENA LENINA I ORDENA TRUDOVOGO KRASNOGO ZNAMENI AVTOMOBILNY ZAVOD IMENI I.A. LIKHACHEVA. 31 Oct., 1969 [31 Oct., 1968], No. 53466/69. Heading F2U. [Also in Division C7] In a Hooke's type universal joint the arms 2 of the intermediate cross-member have a surface hardness of 60-67 Rockwell C at the regions engaged by the needle bearings 5 and a hardness of 50-56 Rockwell C at the base regions. The cross is made from steel containing 0.4 to 1À2% carbon and 0À1 to 0À3% manganese, treated by hardening followed by differential induction heating for tempering, the bearing portions being heated to 450-650 C. and the base portions to 100-200 C., both in a period of 6-12 seconds.
