Abstract
1,223,630. Shielded cells. SOC. LA CALHENE. 30 Dec., 1968 [28 Dec., 1967], No. 61707/68. Heading B4Q. The walls of a demountable shielded cell are made up of a number of rectangular elements of the same thickness but having one or both of their long dimensions differing in simple proportions whereby cells of different size may be readily constructed. As shown in Fig. 1 the cell comprises a basic square element 1 which may be provided with a window 9 and two penetrations 3 for manipulators 5. The thicknesses of all the elements are made equal to 1/12 or 1/24 the length of a side of the element 1. Other rectangular elements 13, 17, 19, 25 each have a length equal to a side of the element 1 and a width 1/2, 1/2, 1/3, 1/3, respectively, of a side of the element 1. Element 13 has a port 15 and element 19 has two penetrations 23 for tongs 21. Other rectangular elements 27, 29 each have a length equal to or double the length of a side of the element 1 and widths 1/6, 1/12, respectively, of the length of that side. The abutting surfaces of the elements have a herring. bone formation 47 and the elements are held together by plates 31, 33 and screws 35. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the rectangular elements are mounted back-to-back to produce cell walls of double thickness.
