A reinforced polymeric composition comprises (1) polypropylene and (2) a reinforcing component consisting of (a) a non-reinforcing filler coated with 1-100% of an organic material containing (1) 0À1 to 10% of an organic compound having a chemical affinity for the filler surface, which compound is ethylenically unsaturated or contains one or more carbon atoms from which a hydrogen atom may be abstracted by a free radical, (2) 1-50% of an organic compound having at least two polymerizable ethylenic unsaturations and (3) 0À5 to 5% by weight of the unsaturated organic compounds, of a free radical generator, and (b) polyethylene. In the examples, kaolin or asbestos is treated with either butylene glycol diacrylate or diethylene glycol diacrylate, 2-methyl-5-vinyl pyridine and a peroxy free radical generator, e.g. benzoyl peroxide optionally with 2,5-dimethyl-2,5- di(t-butyl peroxy) hexane, and the coated filler is incorporated with polyethylene to form a reinforcing composition, which is then blended with polypropylene.
