Abstract

1,222,844. Air cushion vehicles. BRITISH HOVERCRAFT CORP. Ltd. 5 June, 1969 [19 June, 1968], No. 29135/68. Heading B7K. A side wall air cushion vehicle has one or more baffle plates 15 extending along at least part of the outside wall 16 of the vehicle, as shown (Fig. 2) and acting as roll suppressors by deflecting water thrown up by the passage of the vehicle's side walls through the water. The baffle plate 15 can be retractable into the side wall by means of an hydraulic ram 17 mounted on a suitable bracket 20; seals 19 preventing the unwanted ingress of water into the side wall. In other embodiments the baffle plate is fixed by rivets to the outside of the wall (Fig. 1, not shown) or is integrally formed with the side wall of the vehicle.
