Abstract
1,222,713. Shaping coils; bending. ANOCOIL Ltd. 20 May, 1968 [18 Oct., 1967], No. 23813/68. Headings B3A and B3E. A method of making a non-circular coil comprises winding a circular coil from metallic ribbon, forming the coil to the required shape, and consolidating the coil after forming. The coil is wound from electrolytically oxidized aluminium foil by conventional methods. The coil is then placed between forming jaws 18, 19 which make a square coil about a core 17. The core is made in four parts, which move in the direction of arrows 172 during the forming process. A coil of any polygonal shape may be similarly formed and an oval coil may be formed by shaped jaws (11) without the use of a core, Fig. 1 (not shown). A kidney shaped coil is formed between opposed convex and concave jaws, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown). Alternatively the forming jaws and/or the core are hollow, collapsible bodies and the forming is achieved by admitting pressure fluid thereinto. The coil is consolidated in its required shape either by means of an adhesive between the turns or by an adhesive impregnated tape.
