ORDZHONIKIDZE. 7 Aug., 1969, No. 39587/69. Heading C2C. 3,5,3<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP> - Tetrabromo - 2,4,2<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP> - tetrahydroxydiphenyl is prepared by reduction of bis - (3,5,5 - tribromo - 4,6 - dioxo - 2 - cyclohexenylidene) with a salt of an oxyacid of sulphur of valency lower than 6 at a temperature of from 15‹ to 90‹ C. and in the presence of an aqueous alcoholic reaction medium. Bis - (3,5,5 - tribromo - 4,6 - dioxo - 2 - cyclohexenylidene) is prepared by heating 2,4,4,6,6- pentabromo - 1 - cyclohexene - 3,5 - dione in an inert organic solvent at a temperature of from 143‹ to 145‹ C.
