Abstract

Apparatus used in copying sheet originals comprises a supporting platform 10 carrying a blanket 12 of impervious flexible rubber and having an upstanding surround 14, the surround in turn supporting a clear glass pane 15 which makes an air-tight seal therewith, a suction duct 17 at one side of the blanket and an air-pressure duct 20 discharging below the blanket near the centre thereof. In use, the pane 15 is moved for a sheet original 21 to be placed on the blanket, the pane is replaced, and the cavity 22 formed by the pane, surround and blanket evacuated. As shown, air drawn from the cavity 22 is used to supply air under pressure beneath the blanket centre, thus preventing sag of the blanket and causing the whole area of the sheet original to bear against the glass plate 15. In another embodiment Fig.3 (not shown) an inflatable chamber (23) is located below, or formed integrally with, the blanket.
