Abstract
1,222,224. Refrigerators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 13 Sept., 1968 [20 Sept., 1967], No. 43688/68. Heading F4H. [Also in Division A4] The freezer compartment of a refrigerator houses an ice-making and dispensing unit and a passage extends through the door of the compartment, the inlet of the passage being arranged to receive ice from the unit. As shown, a recess 8 is formed in the freezer compartment door and a passage 20 extends between the top of the recess and the inner face of the door. The passage is normally closed by a closure member 26, to which a shoot 34 is pivotally secured, and is opened by pressing a receptacle against a knob 40 in the recess so that the end pad 41 of a push rod 39 rotates a crank 42, 44 bearing on legs 28 which support member 26. Pad 41 thereafter actuates an electric switch to energize the ice-dispensing unit 14 so that ice falls into shoot 34 and is directed thereby into passage 20. When the receptacle is removed, the ice dispensing unit is de-energized and member 26 is closed by a spring 33, closure of member 26 bring delayed by a dashpot 50 to allow for passage of ice already discharged from unit 14. The freezer compartment extends for the full height of the refrigerator at the side of a fresh food compartment (Fig. 1, not shown) which contains a water tank. A further knob in the recess 8 actuates a valve in a line leading from the tank to a cold water dispensing point in the recess. Electric heaters 62, 64 are provided at the inlet of passage 20 and at the bottom of recess 8 respectively.
