Abstract

[Also in Division H2] A flexible strip of channel-type insulated jointing clips comprises a continuous channel of flexible insulating material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride wherein a number of metal jointing clips of, e.g. phospher bronze are secured so as to be spaced from each other in the longitudinal direction of the channel, two walls of the latter being divided at a point intermediate each pair of adjacent ends of consecutive clips. The strip is made 'by firstly subdividing the channel flanges 5b by incisions perpendicular to the plane of the web 5a; the latter being left integral to preserve continuity, whereafter, each length of this channel 5 is loaded with metal clips 1 so that respective locating holes 6 and 6a are in mutual alignment. The clips being secured by secondary flanges 5c on the channel and by stagging parts of the channel 5d into apertures 2a formed by the deflection of tabs 2. Two insulated wires to be joined are placed unstripped into the channel, the side walls 1 b of which are then pressed down onto the wires enabling excrescences 4, provided on the clip, to make contact with the metal cone of each wire. The completed strip may be supplied in the form of spiral coils accommodated in cassettes (Fig. 4, not shown).
