[Also in Divisions C2, C5 and D1] Polymers, e.g. polyethylene, polymethylmethacrylate and glass-filled unsaturated polyester resin, are optically brightened by the incorporation therein of compounds free from chromophoric substituents, having the formula wherein A represents a polycyclic aromatic group containing at least three condensed rings, R 1 represents a chlorine atom, a hydroxy or amino group, on optionally substituted alkoxy or aryloxy group, a group R 2 or another substituted amino group, and R 2 represents an unsubstituted or substituted alkenylamino or alkenyloxy group, or an alkenylaryloxy group. In Example 12, the compound used is 1-[2,4- bis-(alkyloxy) - s - triazin - 6 - yl] - pyrene.
