In a tdm communication system a circulating store has consecutive storage blocks each block containing a section holding, as required, an address which is produced periodically to operate a corresponding line gate to a tdm highway at intervals equal to the multiplex channel period on the highway, the store circulating in a period equal to a whole number N times the multiplex channel period on the highway so that to operate a line gate the corresponding address is held in the allotted sections of N equispaced storage blocks, the remaining sections of each storage block being employed to store additional data pertinent to the connection in the corresponding multiplex time slot. One of the other sections of each storage block may hold the address of another party to a connection in order to control that party's line gate in the same time slot. Another or other sections may record routing digits involved with extending a connection, or may be employed in the process of detecting and accumulating dialled digits. An intermediate store may be necessary to collect and collate the data relating to a connection and distributed over a consecutive set of N storage blocks.
